The St Sorlin valley was not really accessible to motor transport until the mid 20th century, hence there is a wealth of foot and mule tracks giving access to neighbouring valleys. Walks vary from pleasant ambles around the village, walks to various alpage chalets and even the foot of the Etendard glacier to more serious mountain and ridge walks.
The village tourist office can put you in touch with a number of mountain guides, who can lead individuals or groups on a variety of walks and expeditions at any level desired. These guides are of course well versed in mountain lore and are wonderful information sources on the flora and fauna of the region.
For the serious mountaineer there are numerous peaks and faces at all kinds of difficulty. At the top of the village there is also a via ferratta.
Each Tuesday and Thursday during the summer season the Choseaux skilift can take the climb out of some routes by whisking you up to 2000m in minutes - takes most of the hard work out of the walk around the Trois Lacs to the glacier!
Driving up and parking at the Col de la Croix de Fer or the Col du Glandon also gives a good start to other high altitude routes.
