Shopping in the village concentrates on food, winter or summer mountain clothing and equipment, Savoyard speciality delicatessen food and drink and souvenir items.
 
Of course being a French resort there is the inevitable irresistible patisserie to negate all the good work done by your physical activities!
 
It would be sinful to omit a reminder that one of the Alps finest cheese producers is situated at the lower end of the village and tasting is quite normal, though dangerous for the waistline. It is well worth spending a little extra time in the ‘fromagerie’ to view the production area and the cheese making exhibition.
 
St Jean de Maurienne has a full range of shops, including  large Champion and Intermarche supermarkets.
 
For the real shopping addicts Chambery, Grenoble and even Turin and Milan are within striking distance, though Milan would really need an overnight stop. The most comfortable way of visiting Turin or Milan is by TGV and there are some very low fares available - Turin for as little as 15€.
