St Sorlin d’Arves is some 30 minutes drive from the valley town of St Jean de Maurienne. St Jean is on the A43 motorway and the Paris / Turin / Milan rail link. Taxi and minibus services are available to/from St Jean, Chambery, Grenoble, Lyon and Geneva airports. Car hire is available from the airports or in St Jean, Chambery airport is about an hour’s drive whilst Grenoble and Lyon about two hours, Geneva about 2½. St Jean has excellent motorway connections to both the airports and the Channel ports.

Skibelle apartments have private parking adjacent to the building and vehicle access to the door. Self drivers beware, there is a breakdown service in the village - but NO fuel - so be sure to fill up before leaving the valley bottom! (No longer totally accurate - there is now a self-service fuel station a few kms below St Jean d'Arves - but this is credit card only and some non-French cards may not operate it). Prices there are mountain surcharged so it is usually still advisable to fill up in the valley bottom.

Despite your satnav device's advice DO NOT try and take the short cut over the Col de la Croix de Fer in winter -both it and the Col du Glandon are closed from late November until often the end of May or later!

 

Arriving from the St Jean direction, Dome de la Côchette is about 50 metres beyond the Tourist Office, set back from the road on the right hand side. Look for our sign just below the Les Carlines building and follow the drive round to the building entrance.

 

Note: Outside of the ski season the normal road from St Jean de Maurienne to St Sorlin may be closed for improvement work and a deviation via Albiez is then put in place. This will add some 10 to 20 minutes to the journey. If arriving from the Chambery/Albertville direction the route over the Col du Glandon and the Col de la Croix de Fer makes a pleasant and scenic alternative.
